Leadership Excellence Model

The Insight Leadership Excellence Model is the result of detailed research (coupled with twenty years of international management consultancy experience) into behaviours and characteristics of effective leaders.

Specifically, the model provides a context for selection of new managers and development of existing managers at all levels within an organisation.

The outer circle of the model depicts the 3 main functions of leadership: managing the business objectives, managing other people and managing oneself. Within each function are three corresponding behaviours the determine effectiveness in that specific function, for example, coaching and mentoring behaviours are a prerequisite for developing others.

It is these behaviours (nine in total) that identify what a leader does - or doesn't do - and how effectively they fulfill the role of a leader. Underpinning these behaviours are the specific skills, shown in the concentric circles, required to demonstrate these behaviours effectively.

At the core of the model are the personal characteristics displayed by all effective leaders and which are necessary to differentiate leadership from all other aspects of management.
